Ru Halwala
Ru is a Sydney comedian, improviser, teacher, producer and drag king who fights crime against bad taste in her spare time. She is half of the sketch comedy duo/production company Scary Strangers and produces Are You Havin’ A Laugh?! and The STEAM Room.
Ru’s comedy career kicked off as a student at Improv Theatre Sydney (ITS). After graduating the improv course she moved on to perform as part of ITS house teams Tetronimo, The Rich Macaulay Culkin Group, Shared Custody, and Your Choice of Dipping Sauce. She is also part of the all-girl improv troupe, ASMR, who won the 2021 ITS Smackdown competition.
Ru has appeared on Win the Week (ABC), The King In Me (SBS), PedestrianTV, and was a writer on the latest season of Gruen (ABC). She performs improv, stand up, sketch comedy and drag regularly at venues across NSW including ITS, Splendour in the Grass, Comedy Store, Factory Theatre, Newcastle Comedy Club and The Vanguard.
Ru holds dual bachelor degrees in Business (Public Relations) and Fine Arts (Interactive and Visual Design) from Queensland University of Technology, and an Associate Diploma in Speech and Drama from the International Music Examinations Board. Along with teaching improv at ITS and Pymble Ladies College, Ru is our Social Media and Community Manager.
