Kate Coates

Kate (she/her) is an improviser and educator who has trained with Impro Australia, Improv Theatre Sydney, iO and Second City in Chicago.

At ITS, she’s a teacher, performer, director, and former company director. Since her improv career began in 2012, she won the first ever ITS Smackdown competition in 2015 at Giant Dwarf, the 2013 Fresh Cranston Cup, the 2015 Cranston Cup and the 2016 Theatresports Nationals Competition at the Enmore Theatre. Representing NSW, she won the National Theatresports Titans competition in the 2014 Adelaide Fringe Festival and performed in the Australian Theatresports Challenge for Amnesty International.

She has produced, directed and hosted a bunch of improv shows including ITS Sandpit, the First Thursday Impro Club, and Full Body Contact No Love Tennis. She’s facilitated many corporate workshops with folks including Buzzfeed, Ernst & Young, Louis Vuitton, and Sanitarium. She teaches Theatresports and drama across loads of schools including Kambala, Sydney Girls High, Pymble Ladies College, Fort St High School and Reddam House.

Offstage: When she’s not improvising, Kate can be found reading a book, eating slabs of tofu or trying to work out what kindof bird that is.
