In this 30-min show and 1-hour workshop, you’ll deepen your understanding of long-form improvisation, and explore how to bring collaboration and spontaneous play to your classroom drama projects! Watch a top-notch example of improvised long-form theatre from Improv Theatre Sydney’s very own faculty, followed by a fun and practical workshop.

Can you hold an audience’s interest? Are you sure? More or Less is a format that answers that question and provides valuable insight. In this 2 day (12 hours) workshop, we will be working directing and narrative skills. There will be scenes, exercises and direct notes / feedback.
Patti is an actor, director, author, playwright and teacher who specialises in improvisational theatre. Her tutelage and mentorship has strongly influenced many improvisors and improvisation companies all over the world. The Canadian press has given her the titles “Impro Doyen” and “Queen of Improvisation”.

Platform and Tilt

Every scene starts by creating a foundation from which we build on. This is the Platform, the stability. Advancing the scene, or moving the story forward, is created by altering one or more characters. This is tilting, creating an instability. In this workshop we will explore how to create and what is needed in a platform and how and when to tilt.

Tag line songs are one of the most rewarding formats in Musical Improv – Take a deep dive into how to create these memorable songs which leave the audience wanting more.
Mark is a musician and improviser originally from Scotland who now lives in Brisbane where he is a director of Big Fork Theatre.

Tanine Dunais is an Iranian improvisor who has taught all across Europe and until this year was the co-Artistic Director of the Impro Festival in Amsterdam – Europe’s biggest improv festival.

Generational Bridges

The workshop “Generational Bridges” focuses on building fruitful scenes with relationships across generations. It encourages participants to listen sincerely, be present with lively memories, and support their scene partners to find the “fruits” in our differences and similarities.
Kim-Thanh Lê is a Hanoi-based improviser/writer, founder/director of The Improv Hub, Vietnam’s first community space dedicated to improv, and the Vietnam Improv Festival.
