Stronger Scenes = Stronger Songs with Jaron Why

This workshop focuses on creating solid scenework that will become the jet fuel for your show stopping numbers. To improvise a song freely with that musical theatre confidence, you need the preceding scene to have a stable platform, character specificity, and a bit of heart. There’s unique beauty within us that can inspire your song, your fellow players, and most importantly, the audience. Let’s draw that out!

We’ll learn how to actively listen for musical offers, intensify your scene partner’s offers, and when to dig deep into emotions. Whether it’s a comedic or dramatic format, we’ll strengthen your improv to pump up your songprov, gaining tools to have you performing the best of both worlds.

About the teacher

Jaron’s journey with music began over 20 years ago, learning the piano and musical theory from a young age. In 2014, when he joined the Big Hoo-Haa! as the Director of Music, Jaron combined his love of improvised comedy and music, taking songprov to new heights. Since then, he has performed and taught all over Australia with groups such as Impromptunes, Murder Village, Cabaret Time Machine and The Ad-Libertines.

Recommended for people with previous musical improv experience who want to take their craft to the next level. Participants without musical improv experience can register if A) you’ve completed ITS Level 3 (or equivalent experience elsewhere) and B) you’re willing to jump in the deep end and make mistakes. 

This workshop takes place at Improv Theatre Sydney, 44-54 Botany Road, Redfern

Please arrive 10 mins early and ready for the class to start at 1pm.
