Playbackish with Chipz Jin

THE WORKSHOP

Have you ever heard about Playback Theatre? No? Well, this is the course for you! In this introduction to Playback, dive into Playback short forms, and begin your journey of listening and playing as a Playback ensemble member.

Join Chipz as they breakdown all (some) things Playback and take you through short forms; fluid sculptures, chorus transformations, pairs, interruptions, facets, and, if there’s time, travelling moments!

Over the course of 3 hours, you will gain specialised tools for your performance toolkit!

THE Teacher
Chipz (they/them) brings heart and a trauma-informed approach to the stage. They have been improvising since 2019, diving deep into applied theatre like Forum and Playback. With four years of Playback under their belt, Chipz spent two of those directing the nationally touring Canberra Playback troupe. They have also brought their teaching chops to Canberra Improvention 2025 and Brisbane Improv Festival 2026. Chipz loves collaborating with marginalised communities and facilitates monthly anti-racist discussions with COAR (the Collective on Anti-Racism).

“I feel like the way you taught really challenged me to think about how I challenge these ingrained ‘rules’ I have for myself…I really appreciated how much energy and thought you brought to the workshop…”

“If you’re on the fence, it’s okay. Chipz has a way of teaching where they’ll bring you out a cup of tea, some biscuits and chat to you as you realise you’d left a step ladder leaning against the fence, to help yourself down.”
