Narrative Improv with Jim Fishwick
This 4-week short course offers a grounding in the principles, skills and techniques of narrative improvisation. We’ll explore how to build story platforms, find a protagonist, be changed, raise the stakes, and tie everything together at the end.
Starting from simple story exercises, we’ll work towards being able to improvise a one-hour play by the end of the month.
Jim Fishwick is an award-winning director, improviser, teacher and writer. They are the current artistic co-director of the New Zealand Improv Festival, the general manager of Jetpack Theatre, a teacher at Improv Theatre Sydney, and have been in demand as a freelance theatremaker and consultant around Australia and Aotearoa for over a decade.
Participants should have completed at least ITS Level 3 or have equivalent experience from elsewhere (at ITS’ discretion, please email us to discuss). No narrative improv experience is required.
This class will meet for 2.5 hours a week for 4 weeks at Improv Theatre Sydney.
Thursday 8, 15, 22 and 29 August, 6.30–9pm.
