ITS will be running mindfulness mediation classes every fortnight so you can learn how to meditate and to find your place of stillness in a busy world (or on a busy stage!)
What is mindfulness meditation?
Mindfulness meditation is based on ancient Buddhist meditation practice where a person meditates by keep their attention focused on internal or external experiences in the present moment. This is usually done by focusing on our breath, mental imagery, awareness of body and mind, and muscle and body relaxation. The main purpose of this mindfulness meditation class is to assist us in learning to be engaged in the present moment in an open and non judgemental way, both in life and on the stage.

The class will consist of a brief talk, a mindful meditation and time for questions. You will be taught practical skills that you can bring into your everyday life so you too can enjoy the benefits of mindfulness meditation. Participants are welcome to bring a cushion to sit on.
Patrick Marando has studied and worked in the field of psychology extensively for over 20 years. He has practiced and taught meditation (mindfulness, tai chi and chi kung) for the past 15 years. Along with this he has a 3rd level red sash in kung fu and has been learning improv for the past two years. He is interested in how our thoughts, attitudes, emotions and behaviours influence our state of mind and uses mindfulness as a tool to gain greater insight into self.
