The 100-Year Workshop
THE WORKSHOP
Improvisers often explore the Who, What, Where in their scenes, but what about WHEN? In this workshop, students will time-travel through 100 years while playing fun, performance-based improv games! From the Roaring 20s to the Fabulous 50s to the Neon 80s to our very own unprecedented times, each game in this workshop is inspired by a different decade, allowing students to explore period improv characters and stylized scene work. Additionally, students will learn a variety of ways to approach and navigate each decade with confidence.
For this workshop, students should have fairly solid improv skills and be comfortable playing characters.
THE TEACHER
Navaris Darson (actor, improvisor, and Groundlings Sunday Company alum) has been studying and performing improv since the turn of the century! Currently, he’s an improv instructor at The Groundlings Theatre and School, which has inspired and produced five-decades worth of astounding comedic talent – including SNL cast members, sitcom actors, and film stars. In addition to teaching character-based improv at The Groundlings, Navaris has also had the great fortune to perform regularly with comedy improv legends all over Los Angeles. He’s absolutely thrilled to be a part of this year’s ITS Comedy Festival, and he cannot wait to share his passion for play pretend and make-em-ups with you!
