Generational Bridges

THE WORKSHOP

In an improv scene, we only have a few minutes to get to know a character and make the connection feel like years. How could we portray the people from generations we’re not familiar with? How to handle the characters’ relationships with care and kindness?

The workshop “Generational Bridges” focuses on building fruitful scenes with relationships across generations. It encourages participants to listen sincerely, be present with lively memories, and support their scene partners to find the “fruits” in our differences and similarities.

Generational Bridges will remind us that improv can create bonds and empathy in unexpected ways, strengthen our connections, and remind us of our humanity in the joy of creativity.

THE TEACHER

Kim-Thanh Lê is a Hanoi-based improviser/writer, founder/director of The Improv Hub, Vietnam’s first community space dedicated to improv, and the Vietnam Improv Festival. You can often find Kim on stage as part of The Rotten Grapes, AlmostFun, as well as half of the duos Thanh Minh and KimxMatt. Kim has been building the improv community across Vietnam, bringing this special art form to audiences in this young scene. Most of the shows and classes she has produced in her country are bilingual, to treasure both local cultures and international bonds. She has also taught and performed in Australia, China, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. When not doing improv, she gets nerdy and writes case studies for Nikkei Business Lab Asia to tell the stories of Asian businesses.
