Heaps of Scenes with Notes with Clare Cavanagh

THE WORKSHOP
Do you wanna do a bunch of scenes and get notes directly after them? Then this workshop is for you. We’re doing what it says on the tin: you’ll get up, do a scene, Clare will give you notes, rinse and repeat. We’ll start by quickly finding out any specific areas of improv you want to work on (playing with status? characters who aren’t human? playing the game of the scene? just general vibes?) and then see how many heaps of scenes with notes we can do. Wahoo!!!
THE Teacher
Clare Cavanagh is an improviser, actor and writer who has performed in the most glamorous of locations, from New York City to Newcastle (NSW). You’ve seen her perform at ITS in hit shows such as CUNTRY WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION, ITS THE SUNDAY RESET, ITS SOAP, ITS THE NEWS, and like a bunch more. She started all-women’s troupe CONFETTI GUN who were twice invited to perform in NYC at UCB’s Del Close Marathon. As a teacher at ITS, she’s taught all core improv levels for the past 8 years, coached house teams, directed Big House and is now a Board Director.
“Clare is an inspiring performer, teacher, and leader. She is one of Australia’s finest improvisation practitioners and has paved the way for countless people to discover the art form and community of improvised theatre.”
“Clare created a really safe space, I loved how she unpacked concepts and that she gave time and space to everyone.”
“I have had Clare twice now and have learnt a lot. The class never feels flat. She keeps the momentum strong. She is also super creative, clear and intelligent.”
“Clare creates an amazing safe space for us individuals – to be heard, seen and space to develop our skills.”
Experience level
This workshop will suit improvisers who are comfortable with basic scenework and improv fundamentals – students who have at least begun level 3 or equivalent. As everyone will receive notes targeted to their experience level, as long as you feel comfy starting and continuing a scene you’ll be able to take this class. Conversely, if you’re a very experienced improviser you’ll also get a lot out as we can dive into more advanced concepts.
Tue 10 Nov, 6pm – 9pm at Improv Theatre Sydney
This workshop is part of the ITS Comedy Festival 2026. Check out the full program here.
