Impulse, Play and Clown: Weekend Workshop With Jeromaia Detto

Clowns make people laugh, it’s their job. What makes clowning so special though?
Clowns are sensitive, playful and optimistic. They explore through vulnerability and discovery, creating a space where audiences can dream.

In this two day workshop we will discover clown through impulse and play to help us become lighter and more free on stage. Day 1 will focus on sensitivity, complicité and self awareness. Students will explore a variety of impulse based exercises and explore the idea of ‘Le Jeu’ (The Game). On day 2 we will discover the pleasure to play on stage, through understanding the flop, finding the idiot within, the pleasure to lie and the power of simplicity.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Jeromaia Detto is a multi-award winning Melbourne based comedian with over 10 years of performance experience. His style is simple, silly and extremely playful, creating delightfully whimsical moments for audiences young and old. He specialises in improv and clown, having completed studies in Sydney, Chicago, Oslo and in Paris, with clown master, Philippe Gaulier. Since 2017 Jeromaia has sold out workshops across Australia and Europe as well as working with corporate and academic groups. His pedagogy is based on the Gaulier style focusing on honesty, freedom and play.
