Big Characters, Zero Accents with Lorna Shaw

THE WORKSHOP
In this high-energy 3 hour workshop, we’ll unlock endless characters and worlds using an array of physical and vocal tools. Using techniques such as ‘Acting with the Elements’ (earth, water, wind, fire), we’ll break habitual patterns and build distinct, playable characters from the outside in. We’ll also explore, through scene work, how physical choices can lead us to discover point of view and strengthen the ‘game’ of the scene.
Perfect for organic improvisers who want to get braver with their bodies, create dynamic scenes, and expand their character repertoire.
THE Teacher
Lorna is an actor, comedian and improviser from the UK (Trying – APPLE TV, Plebs – ITV2, Newsjack- BBC Radio 4), with TEN years’ experience performing long-form improv.
She trained and teaches at The Free Association in London, where she’s been a member of various house teams and starred in main house shows. She has also trained with alumni of IO Chicago, Second City, and UCB.
Lorna brings a warm, inclusive and trauma-informed approach to her teaching. With a background in psychology (MSc), she specialises in creating empowering spaces. Outside of performing, she runs workshops and theatre projects with communities.
“Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher – encouraging, empathetic, dynamic and – especially – funny!! I had such a great time in classes, and it was always a healthy balance of challenging and fun.”
“Your consistent warmth, positivity and creativity made the class such a dynamic and safe feeling environment for everyone.”
“Thank you so much for being a fab teacher! Throughout the lessons you created such a safe, positive and fun environment for us to be silly, make mistakes and begin the process of learning improv. And it made it all the easier to try new things because of you.”
