A Little Bit of Nonsense with Alicia Gonzalez

THE WORKSHOP

Get out of your head and into your body.

This playful introduction to theatrical clown invites improvisers to discover the comedy already sitting in their bodies: their impulses, rhythms, reactions, failures and glorious stupidity.

Through physical games and improvisation, we’ll explore how doing less, following an impulse and letting the body tell the truth can create surprising comic material.
No pressure to “be funny.” Just play, risk, ridiculousness, and permission to follow the nonsense.

THE Teacher
Alicia Gonzalez is a performer, director and clown teacher, and the founder of The Clown Institute. Trained at École Jacques Lecoq in Paris, her work draws on physical theatre, Le Jeu and theatrical clowning. She has worked as a performer and medical clown, and now teaches artists, improvisers and curious humans to find more freedom, presence and play in performance. Her approach celebrates the body, failure, vulnerability and the glorious stupidity that appears when we stop trying so hard to be funny.

“Alicia has an amazing ability to meet each person where they are. If you’re ready to leap into play, you’re warmly embraced; if you’re more quiet or shy, you’re gently invited to explore play.” – LJ
” I can say that any class Alicia teaches is packed with fun, knowledge and bravery. I feel really lucky I get to learn from her and keep expanding my artistic practice. She creates a safe space where we can explore and be pushed in a supportive way. I’d attend any class she teaches because I trust her 100% and I’m certain it’ll make me a better human and artist.” – Dai
“Alicia is a great facilitator and easy spirit to commune with in silliness. Had a blast and will certainly be returning to continue being an idiot.” – Lachlan
