Inclusion Mission and Scholarships
Improv Theatre Sydney works hard to be an inclusive company and improv community. We are a better community for the diversity of voices that comes to our stage and we want to be able to foster that as well as we can. Our objective is to have a far reaching inclusion across all parts of the company that involves diversities of ethnicities (in particular, Aboriginal Australians), sexual orientations, gender identities, ages and abilities.
We also believe firmly that cost should never be prohibitive to those especially interested in learning improv from ITS.
In an effort to reach our objectives, we have a policy towards gender parity in faculty and in ensemble, as seen by a gender balance in show casting and workshop instructors. We also have a mandate that show casts should work to include peoples of colour, members of the LGBTIQA+ community and people representing a variety of ages.
To further help us reach our objectives, ITS offers a handful of inclusion scholarships every year to prospective students.
An inclusion scholarship can be partial or full, depending on the situation of the applicant and comes with the expectation of participation of the recipient.
Participation comes in the form of attending a minimum of 75% of classes (six out of a term of eight classes). Participation in the workshop comes with the expectation that all students adhere to the ITS Students Bill of Rights.
New participants are expected to start at level one, despite level of experience.
The Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship is for the first three levels of the Improv Theatre Sydney curriculum to the value of $1310 (full), though it may also be applied to specialty workshops to the discretion of the Artistic Director and the Outreach, Diversity and Inclusion Officer. There is the option to extend this scholarship to include levels four to six, valued at $1420, to be determined in consultation with ITS upon completion of the first three levels.
The Pathway to the Stage Scholarship combines the Actors Accelerator class with levels three to six and is aimed at providing more opportunity for a diverse range of actors.
The Artistic Director’s Scholarship includes levels four to six plus six months on an ITS house team (pending an audition after Level 6). Prior scholarship recipients are preferred and teachers can recommend students apply.
The House Team Scholarship provides coverage for six months on an ITS house team (pending an audition after Level 6.)

Please take a moment to fill out the below application. Please note that your level of experience wouldn’t necessarily limit your access to a scholarship, it just gives us the best idea of how to support you.
